After an intensive development phase, the Wired M-Bus Protocol Stack by STACKFORCE is now available. This wired solution complements our established Wireless M-Bus portfolio with a high-performance, robust alternative for M-Bus networks.
The stack enables remote meter reading of water, electricity, gas, and heat meters, as well as the reliable collection and transmission of sensor data such as smoke detector or temperature measurements within wired M-Bus networks.
Efficient remote meter reading with Wired M-Bus
Once set up, a Wired M-Bus network is highly maintenance-friendly and allows fast and reliable data acquisition. Typical use cases include buildings and properties where many meters or sensors are installed in close proximity.
The stack supports:
- transmission of absolute values such as meter readings
- periodic polling of instantaneous values like power, flow, or temperature
- fast availability of all measurement data
Thanks to its wired communication, building penetration is no challenge and data from deeply installed devices is transmitted reliably.
Wired M-Bus – a robust solution for M-Bus projects
The Wired M-Bus Protocol Stack by STACKFORCE implements all protocol elements required for M-Bus conformity, as well as most commonly used optional features. Continuous optimization ensures:
- minimal protocol overhead
- excellent modularity and scalability
- a rich feature set
Standardized in EN 13757 and specified according to OMS 4.1.2, Wired M-Bus is a well-established technology and a strong foundation for standard-compliant projects, especially in Europe.
Flexible architecture and interfaces
The Wired M-Bus Stack implements five protocol layers and provides flexible interfaces, including:
- APIs for application layers in single-chip solutions
- APIs for externalized security functions
- a well-designed Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL)
All API functions are also available via a serial interface (e.g. UART, SPI) with minimal overhead. For sensitive applications, the stack supports AES encryption and various storage types such as EEPROM, Flash, and MRAM, as well as hardware acceleration for cryptographic functions where supported by the platform.
